Details: Diesel Exhaust Fluid DEF Urea Heater Reservoir Assembly All Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) systems require heating elements to prevent DEF fluid from freezing at temperatures less than 12 degrees Fahrenheit. DEF Heating Pots are designed to quickly return DEF to liquid form, ensuring proper flow through the lines and pump unit. If your diesel vehicle is operating in limp mode, or is not operating at full power, a common culprit is a failed DEF heating element. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid Heater, commonly called the “DEF Heater”, is located in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid / Urea) tank and actually contains the pickup tube for the reductant pump module, an electric heating element, a temperature sensor, a pressure sensor, and an electrode-type level sensor. It enables the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) to function at low temperatures.
