Details: The Pitsco 35589 Toothpick Bridges Getting Started Package provides students in grades 6-12 a hands-on activity to design and build a model bridge that demonstrates scientific concepts of structural engineering, force, and geometry, and includes enough parts required to build 30 toothpick bridges, the Pitsco 30003 Toothpick Bridge Tester, and the Dr. Zoon Toothpick Bridges Video. The Getting Started package includes 2-5/8″ square wood toothpicks for clean joints, blue Pitsco Structures Glue, empty individual glue bottles with caps, and waxed paper for building toothpick bridges. The Pitsco 30003 Toothpick Bridge Tester provides a way to determine the strength of the toothpick bridge. It includes a bucket and lid, a test block, a washer, an eye bolt, an 18-inch nylon cord, a hex nut, a measuring stick, and instructions. Once assembled, the bucket can be attached to the roadbed of the bridge and filled with sand to measure the load capacity of the bridge. The Dr. Zoon Toothpick Bridges Video is closed captioned and 26 minutes long. It provides ideas and step-by-step instructions for constructing toothpick bridges. A model bridge kit is typically used in an educational setting to demonstrate structural engineering and design.
Construction requires hobby knife and tape (both sold separately). Testing requires sand or weights (sold separately).
