“As a readers’ advisory, for collection development, and for helping the classroom teacher get the best resources, this is an excellent and well-researched book for use with the teen reader.” ―
Library Media Connection

“As many states are adopting the Common Core Standards with its shift in focus from fiction to nonfiction, this guide will be especially valuable to librarians selecting content that will actively engage teen readers across the curriculum.” ―
School Library Journal
“In summary, like its earlier companion volume, Reality Rules II is a superbly compiled reference work/selection tool that should be owned by all public library systems and school divisions in Canada. Additionally, librarians-in-training, whether school or public, could use the contents of Reality Rules II as a most engaging introduction to the wide range of nonfiction that responds to teens’ recreational reading interests. . . . Highly recommended.” ―
CM Magazine
“Fraser’s descriptions of the books are concise and well-written. . . . While not a book to be read cover-to-cover, it does fill a gap in the literature and as such should be purchased by any young adult librarian looking to expand their collection. This work will also be of use in high school libraries where librarians are in need of nonfiction that works under the Common Core Standards.” ―
ARBA
“Fraser, who was a member of the first committee for the YALSA Award for Excellence in NonfIction for Young Adults, provides guidance on reading levels and trends in YA nonfiction books. Recommended.” ―

Product Description
Reality Rules II: A Guide to Teen Nonfiction Reading Interests presents approximately 450 fresh nonfiction titles annotated and organized into genre areas to address the reading interests of today’s teens, covering everything from adventure to history, sports, life stories, and how-to.
Authored by a member of the first committee for the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults, this essential guide will help librarians, teachers, and parents find appealing materials for readers interested in nonfiction. The book offers expert guidance on reading levels and provides a list of fiction readalikes at the end of each chapter. It also identifies award-winning books and spotlights titles that appeal to specific groups, such as adult books that teens will enjoy, and books that are ideal for reluctant readers.
From Booklist
This companion volume to 2008’s Reality Rules is a guide to teen nonfiction reading interests featuring books published since 2007. Divided into three major parts—“Nonfiction Genres,” “Life Stories,” and “Nonfiction Subject Interests”—the entries are gathered into thematic chapters (“True Crime,” “History,” “Science, Math, and the Environment”) and are arranged alphabetically by author and include bibliographic information, a detailed annotation, keywords reflecting topics in the book, and a notation of appropriate age groups. The guide includes quick picks for reluctant readers as well as popular paperbacks. At the end of each chapter is a section of books readers can consider starting with, followed by a list of fiction read-alikes (no bibliographic information is given for those books). Overall coverage is good, although some of the fiction suggestions may be lacking (The Book Thief, a 500-plus-page Printz Honor Book read, merits only a one-sentence annotation); there are a few misspelled book titles (John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars is listed as The Fault is in Our Stars in both the text and the index); and there are some odd choices (a 37-page picture-book biography of Jim Henson doesn’t seem to fit here). A list of “Nonfiction Readers’ Advisory Resources for YA Librarians,” a bibliography, and two
