From the Author
Some things are best written and not spoken out loud. And history not captured, curses the future. This book is a connection between my past and my future. I wrote these poems over a span of 15 years, and offer them now to my readers. All poems are influenced by real life experiences. There is no better source of inspiration than life. There is a lot of imagery and names of places in all poems. I encourage readers to take their time, reviewing the places and imagery to fully understand the spirit of the poems. When a place is mentioned, review it, to fully experience the poem. I wrote most of the poems traveling around he world. For example, I was walking a lot in Europe (~ 5-7 miles a day), and I would stop by at a cafe and write depending on the inspiration of the day. During these days, I would speak 3 languages daily (Shona, English, and Spanish), and some poems have few phrases from these languages, true to the experience then. There is no particular preferred order to read the book (although we tried to establish an order). When in love, read poems about love; when you want to understand African culture, read the section on growing up in Africa; when dealing with difficult American issues, read poems about building a life in America; when dealing with death, read poems about death; when traveling or need to be inspired, read poems about traveling and so forth. I hope you can come to this book over and over again and share this experience with me.

Itai David Njanji is a Seattle based Technologist, Public Speaker, Author and Poet. With a formal education in Computer Science and Mathematics, he brings a unique perspective to poetry and writing. He derives inspiration from his African roots, travels around the world, and ability to speak multiple languages which is reflected in his work, redefining modern poetry.Itai David is a traveling author (21+ countries) that loves to hear from readers and regularly shares poems through social media.
