How did you come up with the idea for this product?
One night during a dinner party, our founder, Mike del Ponte was hesitant to put his cheap plastic “other brand” water filter on his nicely set table. Mike decided to pour his filtered water into a glass wine decanter. Unfortunately (or fortunately) as he did, the lid of the water pitcher fell off, causing water to gush all over the kitchen floor. As he cleaned up the mess, he thought, “Why can’t someone create a water filter that’s beautifully designed, easy to use, and made of sustainable materials?” Soma was born. The rest is water under the bridge.
What makes your product special?

What has been the best part of your startup experience?

Offering 2 months of water filtration, Soma filters turn your tap water into clean, pure, delicious drinking water without any unpleasant and unwanted tastes or odors. Encouraging healthy hydration every day, Soma replacement water filters take a natural approach to filtration, with a sugarcane filter casing which houses sustainable activated coconut shell carbon and charcoal filtration media. Made from 60% plant-based and renewable materials, these water purification cartridges have a lower carbon footprint and protect your drinking water from contaminants and additives including: Chlorine (water additive to control microbes); Mercury (from corrosion of galvanized pipes, erosion of natural deposits, discharge from metal refineries, runoff from waste batteries and paints); and Copper and Zinc (from corrosion of household plumbing systems and erosion of natural deposits). The water filter replacements feature a new lid design which allows air to rise through the top and escape while water flows through the outer valley allowing for maximum flow and a more consistent flow rate of 4-6 minutes per fill.
