About the Author
Michael A. Hitt is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University. Dr. Hitt received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. He has co-authored or co-edited 28 books and authored or co-authored numerous journal articles. A recent article lists him as one of the 10 most cited authors in management during a 25-year period and the Times Higher Education 2010 lists him among the top scholars in economics, finance and management, based on the number of highly cited articles he has authored. The Academy of Management Perspectives recognizes Dr. Hitt as one of the top two management scholars, based on the impact of his work in academia and beyond. The Academy of Management Learning and Education lists him as the highest cited author in strategic management texts. Dr. Hitt has served on the editorial review boards of multiple journals and is former editor of the Academy of Management Journal, former co-editor of the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and former editor-in-chief of Oxford Research Encyclopedia. He is a fellow in the Academy of International Business and is a fellow and former president of both the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society and. He has received honorary doctorates (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and from Jonkoping University. R. Duane Ireland is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, where he held the Benton Cocanougher Chair in Business. He has also served in various leadership roles, including head of the Department of Management, executive associate dean, acting dean and interim dean. Dr. Ireland taught strategic management courses at all educational levels. He has more than 200 publications, including approximately 25 books. His research focuses on diversification, innovation, corporate entrepreneurship, strategic entrepreneurship and the informal economy. He also has served on multiple editorial review boards and is a former editor of the Academy of Management Journal. He is also a former consulting editor for the Academy of Management Executive, and he has been a guest editor for 13 special issues of journals.
