Details: The 8-foot Pitsco 37516 Aluminum Maglev II Track is made of sturdy aluminum, has two parallel magnetic strips inside for racing maglev vehicles including the Pitsco Levitator Maglev vehicles, and demonstrates magnetic levitation for students in grades 3-12 studying the scientific concepts of magnetism, center of mass, and aerodynamic drag. It is made of two 4-foot sections of track that combine to create an 8-foot track for testing and racing maglev vehicles. The track can be used with gravity-driven and battery-operated maglev vehicles. The track can also accommodate electric maglev vehicles by applying an electric current to the track with a DC power supply and leads such as the Pitsco 37797 Maglev E Track Power Supply (sold separately). The two parallel magnetic strips measure 1/2 x 1/4-inch (W x T). (W is the horizontal distance from left to right; T is the thickness from top to bottom.) The inner track measures 2-9/16 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches high and accommodates one maglev vehicle, while the overall track height is 2-1/2 inches. The track requires some assembly, and it comes with two assembly pins and instructions. A maglev track is typically used in an educational setting demonstrate magnetic levitation, physic, and engineering.
